Campaigner Sam Lawes

Sam Lawes is currently reading Politics with International Relations at the University of Bath. In his first year there, he was elected Academic Representative for his subject year. He participated strongly in university life, in particular as Secretary for an environmental society, campaigning for better recycling facilities and organised events to raise awareness of important issues.

In his second year, he was re-elected as Representative for his subject year. He was subsequently elected to the Academic Executive, and invited to sit on both the Faculty's Board of Studies and Teaching and Quality Committee. He frequently chaired his Department's Staff-Student Liaison Committee, sat on a Financial Services Advisory Board and was invited to sit on the university Ethical and Environmental Steering Group.

It was at this time that he joined the Liberal Democrats. He said: "I joined because the Liberal Democrats best represent what I believe in. Every party has its strengths and weaknesses - but if you want to get involved, which I do, you have to choose the group with whom you most agree. The Lib Dems really have a lot going for them."

Currently in his penultimate year, he is working for the Electoral Reform Society as Regional Coordinator for Bath and North East Somerset. He hopes for a yes vote in the referendum on the alternative vote in May, commenting:

"I really hope that we can learn from this grossly distorted election, and bring our political system up-to-date with the 21st century. It's an honour to be able to lead the yes campaign in Bath. It's good for everyone, apart form a handful of lazy politicians in safe seats, and extremist parties who promote hate and closed-mindedness."

If you are a resident of the Bath constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
