Cllr Andrew Furse

Councillor Andrew Furse

Andrew Furse is one of your Liberal Democrat councillors in Kingsmead.

He was first elected to the Council for Kingsmead in 1994 and was previously Chair of the influential Overview and Scrutiny Panel for Education, Youth, Culture and Leisure. Currently, he is Chairman of the Council's Audit Committee.

He works in Bath as a chartered engineer for a railway safety consultancy. He lives in Kingsmead ward and has two daughters who attend a local secondary school.

Andy has worked on a number of projects in the city including:

  • Improvements to school meals
  • Setting the agenda for co-educational status at Oldfield school via the secondary school review
  • Green spaces strategy: protecting allotments and working towards improvements to Royal Victoria Park
  • Improvements to our local environment e.g. Kingsmead Square, public spaces and the River Path.

Andy says "We must protect our green spaces, tackle crime and antisocial behaviour, and ensure schools in the city remain high quality.

"Residents need to be kept informed on major projects like Western Riverside and City Centre developments.

"From listening to many of you on the doorstep, I have a good idea about what the people of Kingsmead ward want from the Council. I hope to continue working to ensure Kingsmead residents get a fair deal"

Campaigner Douglas Nicol

Campaigner Douglas Nicol

Douglas Nicol was elected as a Liberal Democrat coucnillor for Kingsmead in 2011.

He loves the City of Bath and as a successful businessman having been in manufacturing as well as an ex-hotelier and restaurateur, gaining 2 AA Rossettes, Douglas understands the need for service and quality. He is competent and efficient and will strive to ensure that the Council provide the service and quality that the people of Kingsmead deserve.

A natural campaigner, Douglas was involved with Green Peace, and worked on the re-fit of the trawler 'Sir William Hardy', re-launched in 1978 as 'Rainbow Warrior', he was involved with the League Against Cruel Sports as well as IFAW campaigning against the culling of the seal pups in Canada.

Douglas' concerns for Kingsmead:

  • Anti social behaviour in Kingsmead Square and other hot spots.
  • Victoria Bridge, why has it been allowed to deteriorate? He will continue to campaign to have it re-opened.
  • Douglas will support residents in their opposition to a new bridge from Norfolk Crescent onto the Western Riverside site, bringing negative impact on the residents quality of life and the green space.
  • Residents of Kingsmead should be kept informed of major projects in the city, and as part of this there'll be a Kingsmead blog.
  • Douglas will continue to support residents opposition to the BRT.
  • Victoria Park and the Botanical Gardens should continue to be nurtured, ensuring enrichment of the people's lives locally.
  • Douglas will continue to support the redevelopment of the garage and improved crossing facilities at the top of Marlborough Lane.

He believes 'cities are for people'.

Douglas is married to Sue, whose great grandfather had a shop on Pulteney Bridge, he has four grandchildren and being very keen on sport it is often said that his religion is RC (Rugby and Chelsea FC)!

If you are a resident of the Bath constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
