Cllr David Dixon
David was born in Bath and attended St Gregory's Catholic College where is his now a governor and then City of Bath College where he started in politics as President of the Students' Union. He lives in Hillcrest Drive with his wife Sandra.
David is a Sales Director for a local printing company and is married with two children who attend Moorlands Infant School and Firststeps Nursery on Moorfields Road. He is also a member peer for the Improvement and Development Agency delivering training for other Councillors and has worked with the Audit Commission on Local Government inspections.
David takes an active part in public life. He was Chair of the Resources Scrutiny Panel (B&NES) from 2003-05. He then became Chair of the Planning Transportation and Sustainability Scrutiny Panel from 2005-07. He is currently Chair of the Corporate Performance and Resources Overview and Scrutiny Panel.
David believes that being a councillor means serving the local community, bringing together different interest groups to improve neighbourhoods, and being able to drive forward continuous improvements.
David was first elected as a councillor in 2002 to the Walcot Ward, during this time David has brought about local improvements to youth services, new trees in the Bathwick Estate, two new play areas in Snow Hill, new pedestrian crossings, new football facilities and a new children's play area on Kensington Meadows, better partnership working between Somer Housing and the Council, has worked with residents to improve green open spaces and many more smaller issues which affect people on a local level.
He has also worked on issues that affect residents across Bath, supporting the call to keep Culverhay open and campaigning for better home to school transport.
David realises that we need to work closer with public transport providers to create a real alternative to using the motor vehicle. He is also keen to see younger people get involved in local decision making. Finally, he works hard to create a healthy mix of jobs, with decent office facilities which are flexible enough to tempt more businesses to Bath.
David is very keen to ensure that business continues to thrive on Moorland Road and is ready to look into how the Christmas lights can continue year on year and will look into funding opportunities to continually improve the look and feel of Moorland Road. Last year he and his wife obtained a £30k grant to install new play equipment at The Sand Pits and continues to work hard to improve facilities for young people across Oldfield. David is also very supportive of the improvements along the Linear Park and wants to make sure that this treasured route continues to be accessible for all from families with children, older people using it for leisure, cyclists and dog walkers alike."
