Cllr Lisa Brett

Campaigner Lisa Brett

Having studied Electronics in the eighties, Lisa worked in manufacturing for a number of years before joining Voluntary Service Overseas in 1989 to become a teacher in Nigeria. From 1994 to 2000, she lived in Latin America where she was appointed to the Executive Board of a charity established to support victims of Hurricane Mitch. Returning to UK, she worked for Victim Support's National Office where she was responsible for delivering statutory funding and sat on several international project steering groups. During this time, she worked closely with the European Forum for Victim Support Schemes and with the European Commission. In addition, she has a record of successful management in the commercial sector, having worked as a Business Development Director for two companies.

Lisa has lived in Walcot for ten years with her husband and three children. As a result, she has first-hand experience of nursery, primary and secondary school provision in Bath. She is determined to see the highest standard of education in all our schools.

Like many, Lisa feels it is unacceptable that First Bus should determine the level of bus fares or bus routes without considering the impact this will have on the community, particularly for young people as well as older and vulnerable people.. She strongly favours the introduction of quality partnerships between the council and bus service providers.

The London Road should be regenerated, and this is a priority of Lisa's. To this end, she attends meetings of the London Road and Snow Hill Partnership in an effort to gain a clear understanding of what has been trialed in the past, what is known to work well and what obstacles exist to regeneration in order to build on lessons learnt.

Lisa is also involved in a community gardening project in Kensington Gardens that aims to provide a pleasant green space for local people to enjoy.

Across B&NES Lisa would like to see:

  • A lowering of congestion on our roads
  • The highest standard of education in all schools
  • All residents' living in decent housing
  • Cleaner streets
  • High standards of public health, particularly for the elderly
  • Crime brought to a national low
  • Effective implementation of sustainable green policies
  • Greater community cohesion.

Cllr Paul Fox

Campaigner Paul Fox

Paul Fox lives in Henrietta Street with his wife who is a Bathonian. He was born and brought up over the border in Gloucestershire, and has a degree from Oxford University.

Paul works for the Natural Environment Research Council, where he is Director of Finance & Operations. He has held senior management roles in a range of public sector organisations, including Bath & NE Somerset Council. Paul originated much of the Council's financial strategy. This has helped to ensure that our local Council is better placed than many in mitigating the impact of the current reductions in public spending.

Paul was a member of Islington Council when he lived in north London. Paul was part of the successful Liberal Democrat team which turned around what was previously a failing inner city Council, reducing one of the highest council taxes in the country, while at the same time investing in and improving priority frontline services.

Paul's priorities for Walcot Ward are:

  • Banning HGVs from Cleveland Bridge
  • Regenerating the London Road area
  • Improving public transport inparticular the 6/7 Bus route
  • Supporting community initiatives including Kensington Gardens, Kensington Meadows, Cleveland Pools, and working with Regenerate.
  • Taking advantage of the government's "Green Deal" to support energy efficiency and a reduction in carbon emissions
  • Ensuring the Council responds to residents rather than "the system"

If you are a resident of the Bath constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
