Lib Dems Support Keeping Cadbury's in Keynsham

The Liberal Democrat Group on Bath and North East Somerset Council has welcomed the adoption tonight of a substantive motion on the proposed closure of the Cadbury's factory in Keynsham. The Liberal Democrats worked closely with the Council's other political groups to come up with a final joint text which includes many elements of the motion proposed by the Liberal Democrat Group on Keynsham Town Council this week. The final text was adopted unanimously in a packed meeting at which many Cadbury's workers were present.

Councillor Paul Crossley (Southdown), Leader of the Lib Dem Group, who seconded the motion, said, "We fully support the efforts of the workers and the people of Keynsham to keep Cadburys in Keynsham. They have been there for decades and are part of the fabric of Keynsham life. It would be a tragedy if the company continues with its plans to close the factory at Keynsham and re-open elsewhere.

"We are happy that the company has growing demand for its products but feel strongly that they should remain in Keynsham with a manufacturing facility. Cadbury's have been with us for decades and there is no reason for the move except to make a few extra pounds."

Keynsham Town Councillor Tony Crouch added, "I welcome this motion from my colleagues on Bath and North East Somerset Council - it is vital that this issue be raised at all levels."
